Brand New Lows

My life this week:

- Three births in four days, all over night, therefore no sleep for three nights in a row
- Made a nice spaghetti, boiled the noodles, prepared the veggies and couldn't get the lid off the sauce...too tired to care so I dump the veggies onto the noodles and VOILA-dinner is served.

Balls.

I need a good night sleep...

Finally

I finally got to catch my first baby as a registered midwife! Hoorah.

As most midwives know, your first year of practice can be anything but straight forward. If this birth was anything representative of how my year will go, its going to be quite the ride!!! The delivery was great and both mom and baby are healthy but man, what a complicated set of events.

Since I haven't actually caught a baby in about 6 months I felt like I was all thumbs. I got home and I was wiped OUT. Not from being up all night, in fact it was a short daytime birth, but from how much my brain had to work to remember everything...

Today is my day off and its been a slow start. My goal is to finish my Dream in Color Shrug!

Small Victories

Yesterday was a good day. The sun was shining, had a good chat with a friend, found an amazing deal on some of Glen's favorite shoes and bought them along with two scooter cards, discovered an amazing market in downtown London that has a farmers market and tonnes of organic produce at very reasonable prices PLUS the best sushi I've had since leaving Toronto, not to mention a new coffee place!

I also did my first home assessment and hospital consult as a real midwife. I've never done it all alone and it felt great. I'm fortunate to have such a supportive practice. In the end I was the person making the calls without having to ask anyone's permission. Yeay! Have I mentioned I love my job???

Finished the day with a nice bowl of cereal (my ultimate comfort food) and a warm bath.

Today isn't shaping up too shabby either.

VNV Nation - Illusion

Coffe Swap 3 - Q&A

1. Whole bean or ground?
Usually ground for French press/bodum but I like whole beans too! I'm just too lazy to grind them...tehe!

2. Fully-loaded or decaf?
Fully loaded - the darker the roast the better.

3. Regular or flavored?
Regular only please...not such a fan of flavored coffee.

4. How do you drink your coffee?
Cream and sugar...I've got a wee bit of a sweet tooth...although when a coffee is really really good I like it without sugar.

5. Favorite coffee ever?
Ideal coffee in Kensington Market, Toronto...Their lattes are to die for...

6. Are you fussy about your coffee or will any old bean do?
As long as the coffee is strong (but not the sat in the pot all day strong, yuck!), I'm happy. Weak coffee makes me sad :(

I tend to prefer small and local coffee shops and avoid Starbucks at all cost.

7. Favorite treats to have with your coffee?
I'm a morning coffee drinker so I love it with my cereal...homemade oatmeal raisin cookies are also a favorite! Oh, and chocolate...anytime :)

8. Anything else about your coffee preferences?
I have a slight preference for organic and fair-trade coffees.

9. Yarn/fiber you love?
Natural fibers are my favorite. Malabrigo and Brown Sheep Company are on the top of my list these days but I adore anything hand dyed or anything made by local artists...

10. Yarn/fiber you hate?
Ummm...pure acrylics usually. Phentex is the worst...

11. What's on your needles?
I'm currently knitting the Dream in Color Shrug for myself in a beautiful blueberry Malabrigo and the Sacred and Profane Top off Mittens (from Knitwits book) for a friends birthday in Mirasol yarns (Blues and purples).

12. Favorite colors?
Lime green and royal blue are faves of the moments but I love all blues, pinks, purples, greens...mmmmm colour!!!

13. Allergies?
Sadly, I'm allergic to rabbit. I learned this the hard way by trying to knit with Angora...oh sadness because its the absolute softest yarn EVER. Rabbits in real life also give me horrible allergies. Boo.

14. Anything you really love, really don't like, or just need to get off your chest?
I really love anything to do with vintage scooters (Vespas, Lambrettas etc). I also adore cats (especially my own). I love all things Korean or Japanese and anything to do with Halloween.

I don't like politics very much, haha. We just had an election in Ontario and I'm glad the campaigns are OVER!!

All this writing about yarn and coffee has made my thirsty...time for a cup of joe

Bye for now!

Running

It was raining outside today so my running class was canceled. I wasn't super sad because last week kicked my ass and a huge part of me just wanted to quit because it was hard. So I made myself run on the treadmill tonight. I made it through 20 minutes of running for 2 and walking for one. If it wasn't for some great tunes I would have conked out after about 9 minutes. Felt really good after I was finished though!!! I need to have my ass kicked more often.

What Goes Better with A New House?

AN ENGAGEMENT RING!

My partner, Glen popped the big question recently after four and a half years together. I must say I was completely surprised! He's been working away a lot recently. But every time he goes away, he always brings me a home a small gift. We have a running joke that scooter engine parts are really special. He came home from Montreal last Wednesday and he says he's got presents for me. He pulls out an engine part. I laugh. I say "Wow honey, that's nice! What else did you bring me?" I'm used to small toys, knickknacks etc. Then he pulls out the box. He says "I've got something else for you but it comes with a question". Of course, I can't believe what's happening and tell him to shut up :) (in a joking sort of way). Then I said yes, of course and we cried for a few minutes as it sunk in. Crazy, I never thought I was the marrying type!!

He even went to my parents house to tell them of his intentions and he brought his mother ring shopping with him. I think I might have struck it rich in the love department...

I know I'm one lucky woman and proud to have such a wonderful and supportive partner in my life. :)
